Little Red Riding Hood
(Please note: this opera
is not currently available for touring)
This
charming children's opera, written by Seymour Barab, is the same story we've
all grown up hearing... but with a twist. Wait until you see Red's secret
weapon that defends her and Grandma from the Wolf's evil intentions! Not
only is the music wonderful, but there are many great character lessons to
be learned in this brilliant gem of children's opera.
Our original cast included baritone Jonathan LaBarre as the wily and very
comical Wolf/Woodsman, mezzo-soprano Sandra Fritze as the doting and
flamboyant Mother and Grandmother, and Elaine Crane as the mischievous Red
herself. The production is graced with professionally painted sets, lovely
storybook costumes and piano accompaniment by the talented Olga Rogach.
Little Red Riding Hood was written with children in mind. With a simple and
portable set design, it is easily brought into almost any performance space
and comes to life at once! The story is a charming one, and the
characterizations so compelling that young and old will equally enjoy this
remarkable little treasure. It is a wonderful experience of the beautiful
art of opera, for music lovers of any age.
