March 2009 Aria Sing participants
In 2005, Worcester Opera Works began a program entitled "Aria Sing".
Professionally trained singers and seriously studying amateurs get
together every other month, share in the cost of an accompanist, and
have the chance to perform repertoire of their choice from opera,
operetta, oratorio, art song, musical theatre songs, etc. This can
be useful for trying out new arias, refining older ones, gaining
some practical performing experience or getting ready for auditions,
and is also a great place to network and get to know other singers
in the area. Aria Sings are conducted in an atmosphere of support
and encouragement, and professional standards are our goal. All are
welcome, including non-singing audience members (free of charge.)
2010 Aria Sing Dates:
Aria Sing meets at 2:00 p.m. at the Briarwood Community Center in
Worcester, MA. (The room is a comfortable one with a small, lit
stage and a baby grand piano. No warm-up room is available.) Singer
donation is $10, which goes towards our fine accompanist Olga Rogach
(please see her bio on our "Artists" page). Winter/spring
2010 dates will be 1/31/10, 2/28/10, 3/28/10, and 4/25/10. For more information please email our
Aria Sing coordinator, Karen Amlaw, at

Singer Testimonials:
● "I have enjoyed participating in the aria sing programs. These
programs have given me the opportunity to perform for the first time
in public arias that I have been working on in the studio. It is
invaluable to have a chance to sing new works in front of a live
audience. The audience is always supportive and receptive. It is
also fun to hear other singers working on their repertoire." (David
Diamond, Tenor)
● "I find it very motivating in my practicing to have a performance
to work towards. I definitely practiced more the week leading up to
the aria sing than in the previous weeks! Also, the level of stress
and adrenaline that I felt at the aria sing was equal to what I
would feel at any audition or performance, which is a very valuable
experience to have. Plus, its very encouraging to sing for a
positive audience!" (Kaori Emery, Soprano)
● "Aria Sing has really helped to improve my audition skills. The
venue makes it feels like a real audition situation, yet with a very
supportive group of fellow singers. It's a great way to gain
confidence and experience with auditioning or performing, but in a
low risk environment." (Deidre Tisdale, Soprano)
● "The performance space at the Briarwood
Community Center in Worcester is both intimate and friendly to all
voice types. Olga Rogach, the WOW pianist, is a wonderful musician
and collaborator. Seating in this space can accommodate at least 100
people. The small stage keeps the singer focused on presenting
downstage. The monthly Aria Sing is a great opportunity to connect
with audiences and to make or renew friendships with singers." (Paul
Turner, Tenor) |
